Change audio speed while retaining its pitch
Speed up speech or slow down a passage for listening practice. The tool changes tempo while retaining pitch rather than shifting voices higher or lower with the speed.
How to use it
- Select an audio file and choose a speed preset or adjust the multiplier between 0.25× and 4×. The initial setting is 1.5×.
- Process the file; a value above 1 shortens it and a value below 1 lengthens it.
- Download and listen to the result, particularly consonants, music and pauses, before deciding whether the setting is useful.
Example
- Starting point
- A 120-second recording at 1.5× speed.
- What to expect
- About 80 seconds of audio: 120 ÷ 1.5. At 0.5×, the same passage would take about 240 seconds. Encoding can introduce small duration differences.
Before you start
- Changing tempo re-encodes the audio and can introduce audible artifacts, especially at extreme settings. Retaining pitch does not mean identical sound quality.
- The tool does not offer a separate output-format selector. Format support and processing limits depend on the decoder, encoder and browser memory; a small compressed file can still require substantial memory.
