Work out a GPA from course credits

A course with more credits contributes more to this GPA. Enter each course's credits and grade points on the calculator's 0–4 scale, or use its letter-grade table. Replace the example courses with your own before reading the result.

How to use it

  1. Keep one row per course, removing unused example rows and adding any courses you need.
  2. Enter the credits, then choose numerical points or letter grades. In the built-in table, A and A+ both equal 4.0, while B equals 3.0.
  3. Read the GPA and total credits together. To check the calculation, multiply each course's points by its credits, add those products and divide by total credits.

Example

Starting point
Two courses only: 3 credits at 4.0 points and 1 credit at 2.0 points.
What to expect
The total is 4 credits and 14 weighted points. The GPA is 14 ÷ 4 = 3.50.

Before you start

  • The tool accepts up to 100 courses, 1,000 credits per course and 4.0 points per grade. A zero-credit course contributes nothing; all credits cannot be zero.
  • The letter table is this calculator's convention, not a universal conversion. Switching from points to letters selects the closest available letter and may change an intermediate point value.
  • This does not convert foreign marks, apply a 4.3 or 5.0 scale, or decide how retaken and pass/fail courses count. Follow your institution's rules for an official GPA.
